Much good will be lost if the Affordable Care Act shall fall but much good continues with or without the mandate.
If the mandate stands, the ACA can and should stand. Not perfect but better than where we have been. We have much work to do on affordability for people and payers, including the American taxpayer.
If the mandate falls, the ACA still can and should stand. Not perfect but still better.
Some of us who wrote major reform bills going back to the 1980s did so without a mandate. Challenging but still better than where we have been.
ACA needs to be improved, as any major reform bill. That should be our future focus.
